Players Shine at Rainy California Warriors Summer Ball Tryout

A winter morning brought rain before turning bright at the December 4th tryouts for the Summer 2023 California Warriors Baseball Season. Despite the weather conditions, an excellent turnout of players led by coaches from a variety of colleges and MiLB came out to College of Marin’s beautiful baseball facility. The players joined together for stretches and warm-ups to start off the day, getting loose before putting their talents on display for the coaches. Once everyone was warmed up, the players began with a corner to corner drill, throwing hard across the diamond to first from the third base side. Hitters took big hacks both in the cage and on the field against live pitching, the pitchers and catchers worked out together in the bullpens and against live hitting, and all position players had the opportunity to flash the leather.

We appreciate all who showed up and battled the rain at tryouts – we were very impressed with the level of talent shown by familiar players and new players alike, and look forward to sending invitations to play on Dec 27 for those who tried out. We also plan to hold a second tryout on January 15 in San Francisco for those who couldn’t make the December 4 tryout. We applaud the players’ and coaches’ commitment to the game, and want to send a huge thank you to California Warriors Coaches Elijah Smith and Christian Merriwether and all the others who were instrumental in pulling off an efficiently-run and professional tryout day. Most importantly, everyone had fun, laughed a lot, and played over 3 hours of baseball despite getting a little wet in the process!
